Lilia Markham

Lilia’s been playing since late ‘09, which is to say…not very long, but in that time she’s learned a few good tricks and even made up one or two of her own. Now that Lilia’s part of the SPYY family, she’s more compelled than ever to keep learning, creating, and spreading the yoyo love. so keep an eye out. She’ll be playing some yo-yos, making some videos, and going to some contests… things that she was going to do anyway, but now powered by spyy technology! for the players. for the win.

style(s): 1a
hometown: san francisco, ca
playing since: fall 2009
what got you started: around early 2009 my significant other at the time began collecting and playing with yoyos. for many months i ignored this hobby as a phase or idle pastime and thought little of it. occasionally i wondered if it was healthy for a grown man to spend so much time and money on children’s toys. i reluctantly let him teach me the usual beginner tricks like rock the baby and brain twister. i started tagging along at contests and throwing at home occasionally, but i still didn’t take any of it seriously. finally, around february of 2010 something just clicked. i learned ‘the matrix’, and all my tricks started getting a little smoother. i found myself attending local yoyo clubs, meeting and learning tricks from some of the most amazing people i know; people like guy wright, paul escolar, gabe lozano, gary longoria, spencer berry, david capurro, stu branoff, and too many others to name. before i knew it, i was hooked and haven’t left home without a yoyo ever since.
