Canadian producer return tops and winner of National YoYo Contest Award of Excellence
The legendary Ronin lives!
here’s a fun little trick video featuring the ‘PPR’ version of the new SPYY Ronin, a yo-yo that has been ‘mostly hypothetical’ since i started designing it in late 2007. after years of “why-don’t we’s” and “hey-we-should-really’s”, Steve Buffel once again transformed my off-the-wall musings into an eminently playable throw which feels simultaneously daring and stable.
in some respects the antithesis of the ‘Flying V’, the Ronin sports a nearly square profile and a gap you could shop for crappy jeans in. SPYY’s proprietor, Steve Buffel was able (once again) to turn my inexperienced daydreams into an exquisitely-smooth high-performance zombie-bludgeon of a yo-yo (i’ve beaten the absolute crap out of this thing and it’s still ‘cant-tell-it’s-spinning’ smooth).
the PPR version weighs in at 68.5g, features the CBC Center-Trac bearing and CBC Slim Pads, and a limited number will be on sale at the National Yo-Yo Contest in Chico this week.

Hey, Thank you for the great yoyo. I purchased one of the pre-release Ronins at the Nationals in Chico last Saturday. What a wonderful yoyo.
I only compete in the Sport Division and teach kids in after school programs in Chico since I took my retirement after 39 years teaching middle school physical education and history. I am the only person who has competed in everyone of Bob Malowney’s Chico contests since 1988. I just have fun. I should practice more but I love collecting yoyos that in my mind are pieces of art as well as a piece of sporting equipment. Thanks for coming to Chico. See you next year. sally lord
